What is Fruitarianism?
People that have more than 75% of fruits in their diets are considered Fruitarians. Their diet mostly consists of fruits, nuts and seeds, without animal products, vegetables nor grains. The diet is a subset of veganism. A fruit is defined as a plant fruit that is sweet, fleshy and contains seeds within the plant fruit.
With this diet, there are nutritional deficiencies that some people might experience. The Health Promotion Program at Columbia University reports at Columbia University that a fruitarian diet can cause deficiencies in calcium, protein, iron, zinc, vitamin D, most B vitamins and essential fatty acids.
There are nutritional concerns that this diet might have adverse effects on health as this diet is extremely restrictive where you might experience deficiencies in calcium, protein, iron, zinc, vitamin D and most B vitamins and essential fatty acids.
In our opinion we do not recommend someone to follow with this diet plan instead one should follow a more diverse and balanced diet. In fact for one it is relatively hard to follow this diet and there may be some "cheaters" that make the claims of this diet, who might additionally take on a partial veganism diets apart from their normal diet.
The shortfalls of this diet is that modern fruits is rather expensive. One might even experience severe weight lose often leading to anorexia or starvation. This diet does not bring satisfaction physically nor psychologically. Hunger and cravings are frequent, binge eating is very common.
