Sonoma Diet

What is the Sonoma Diet?

The Sonoma Diet is a dietary system developed by Connie Guttersen. It was inspired by the Mediterranean diet.

It emphasizes eating a generous variety of foods revolving around the 10 so called power foods. The power foods were selected based on their high nutritional value and wholesome taste. The power foods are whole grains, almonds, bell peppers, tomatoes, broccoli, grapes, spinach, blueberries, strawberries and olive oil.

As with the more famous diets, the Sonoma diet is separated by phases. There are three to follow, each phase lasts for 10 days. In the first phase, lasting 10 days, where dietary restrictions are imposed the most, one consumes the smallest portions of foods during which sugar intake is greatly reduced. In the next phase a wider variety of foods are allowed, but keeping the weight to decrease until the target weight goal is reached. The third stage is basically a maintenance stage allowing a wider variety of foods including cakes and desserts.

The food consumption is balanced. The Sonoma diet is derived from the Mediterraneean foods that were protecting Europeans from heart diseases and other killers in the past years. The emphasis lies in eating fresh. One can expect to lose 10 to 13 lbs.
